Doorbell cameras (also known as – video doorbells) are a great addition to any home security system. They act as a doorbell and a security camera, all in one device. These smart security devices allow you to monitor your front door from anywhere, even when you’re miles away.
Most doorbell cameras come with two-way audio and a microphone which allows you to talk with whomever is at your front door, without even having to get off the couch!
A common complaint, however, is that some higher end models require a service contract and monthly subscription. Certain manufacturers charge recurring fees to save video and audio files on their cloud server. They may also provide other services including: the ability to download videos, save picture snapshots, and 24/7 professional monitoring.

If you don’t have a subscription, you will still be able to access all of the great features that Ring Video Doorbells offer like: motion-activated notifications, real-time video, two-way talk, and lifetime theft protection. However, without a subscription, you won’t be able to see any past videos or missed events.

Best Doorbell Cameras Without a Subscription or Monthly Fee
The good news is there are doorbell cameras available which come equipped with internal storage. This way you can save videos locally and can review them without having to pay monthly fees or being locked into to a contract.
Internal storage options can vary, some doorbell cameras can accept TF or micro SD cards. Others have permanent internal memory installed. Be sure to check the details in the product specifications before buying.
Another thing to keep an eye on is which smart assistant the doorbell camera is compatible with. Most doorbell cameras will be compatible with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa, but it pays to double check and make sure the doorbell camera will work with the smart assistant you are currently using.
