Ring Recall – Video Doorbell (2nd Generation)

Ring Recall - Video Doorbell (2nd Generation)

  AUTHOR: Carlos Paras
 UPDATED: January 5, 2026

Recall Date: November 10, 2020. Ring is recalling about 350,000 video doorbells in the U.S. and 8,700 in Canada. The recall affects the Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release) model. The video doorbell’s battery can overheat when the incorrect screws are used for installation, posing fire and burn hazards.

You can check if your Video Doorbell is affected by entering the device serial number at this website or calling Ring’s consumer contact number: 1-800-656-1918 from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. PT.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC ) posted the recall notice after Ring has received 85 incidents of incorrect doorbell screws installed with 23 of those doorbells catching on fire. There were 8 reports of property damage as a result of those incidents.

Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release) models with certain serial numbers are included in the recall. The CPSC advises that “Consumers should immediately stop installing the recalled video doorbells and contact Ring for revised installation instructions.”

Ring spokesperson, Emma Daniels, said in a statement, "The safety of our customers is our top priority. We have and continue to work cooperatively with the CPSC on this issue, and have contacted customers who purchased a Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) to ensure they received the updated user manual and follow the device installation instructions. Customers do not need to return their devices."

The recall notice only affects the Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release), not to be confused with the Ring Video Doorbell 2, Ring Video Doorbell 3, Ring Video Doorbell Pro or Elite.

If the doorbell is installed correctly, there is no risk to consumers or potential hazard present.

By following the revised step-by-step instructions and using the correct screws during installation, the device should function as intended.

Note: You do not need to return your device. Simply follow the revised instructions.
